DAYTON
Margaret L. Dayton, 92, of Elmhurst, Illinois passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Margaret was born on February 20, 1919. She was a life-long resident of Elmhurst and a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Margaret loved children. She loved her own children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Margaret loved her neighborhood’s children and especially all the children she babysat for. She loved the children at Little Lambs, where she volunteered for a number of years. Margaret loved her neighbors and considered many of the families as part of her family.
Margaret worked for Providence Washington Insurance for many years, retiring when she was in her early 70s. She loved her job and though of many co-workers as her family. Margaret also worked at Woolworth’s and Neumode Hosiery in Elmhurst.
Margaret loved to share flowers and vegetables from her garden. Margaret loved sharing her baked goods, crocheted items and a wonderful sense of humor with her neighbors and family. Margaret’s home was the place to be for holiday meals.
Margaret is survived by her three children: Don (Gretchen) Dayton of Westchester, Carol (Jeff) Griggs of Douglas, Georgia and Virginia Vidaurrie of Carpentersville. Also six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Margaret now joins her beloved husband Donald, her parents, two brothers, two sisters, sisters in law and brothers in law and a son in law who preceded her in death.
Services were held at the Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary, Elmhurst, on Monday, April 18, with interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
