Gertrude H. Unger, age 102, of Elmhurst passed away on Jan. 28, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Harold M. Unger; loving mother of the late Marilyn (survived by Robert) Toepper, Allen(Karen), and Debra (Duane) Sauke; Proud Grandmother of Michael (Jo-Marie), Carrie (Mark), Christi (Bryan), Matthew (Amanda), Lisa (Jeff), Sarah (Todd), Kristen (Andy), Ashley (Mike) and Whitney (Mike); Honored Great Grandmother of 21. Survived by sisters: Adeline Hein and Alice Wilbur and many nieces and nephews; sister of deceased siblings Lucille Umland, Carl Schmeisser, Harold Schmeisser,Jacqueline Berger, Elaine Gelinne, Ralph Schmeisser, Leonard Schmeisser. Gertrude will be remembered for her generosity to family, friends, and many charitable causes. Her life was dedicated to creating works of art through her sewing, quilting, knitting afghans and crocheting prayer shawls. Visitation on Saturday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to time of service at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Third and Michigan Streets in Elmhurst. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano, Wisconsin at later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 142 E. Third St., Elmhurst, IL 60126 are appreciated.
