Howard W. Ehlers

Howard W. Ehlers, age 90, was born April 1, 1928 in Oak Park, IL. He was the beloved husband of Donna Ehlers and Barbara Ehlers; loving father of Kim (Jeff) Etchoe, Rhonda (Bob) Bourell, Jennifer (Gerry) LaVenture and Debbie Olsen; cherished grandfather of Dan (Dana), Jordyn, Michael, Brian, Amanda, Ross, Cody, Tyler, Dalton, Jordan; adored great-grandfather of Barbara, John, and Courtney; and great-great grandfather of Alazae. Howard is also survived by the Scott family who took him in as their own and treated him as part of their family. Howie was pre-deceased by a brother and a sister.Howie worked for the American Can Company for many years as a metal spinner. He was very proud to have served in the US Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War.There were a lot of things in addition to his family that Howie loved. He was a big Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders Fan, he loved Nascar, especially Tony Stewart, loved driving, was on a bowling league, loved taking the grandkids to fun places like Six Flags, playing horseshoes, loved family vacations in the Wisconsin Dells or Mackinac Island, loved lighthouses, spending time with Barbara going to Cracker Barrel, going to the Oakbrook Health Club, going to Trinity Lutheran Church every Sunday morning (which then became Saturday night), and watching Law N Order and NCIS and Jeff Dunhan. His favorite actor was Steven Segal and musician was Eric Clapton. He loved so many things, it's true, but he hated going to crap (craft) fairs.Visitation will be held at the Pedersen-Ryberg Funeral Home, 435 N. York St., Elmhurst, IL from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 am, which will be officiated by Chaplain Tim Friesema. Burial in his family plot will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, 17W201 Roosevelt Rd., Oakbrook Terrace, IL.
