Joaquina Scroppo, age 94, long-time resident of Elmhurst, passed away in her home, surrounded by loved ones on April 22, 2017. Beloved Wife for more than 50 years to the late Sam Scroppo, a Veteran of WWII; Loving Mother of John (Lina), Samuel (Laura), Marietta (John) Molony and Judith (Lester) Conness. Proud Grandmother of Jackie (Sanjay) Devgan, Joseph (Lori) Molony, Dan (Yixing) Molony, Nicole (Chen) Ni, John Molony, Steven Conness and Jack Conness; Honored Great Grandmother of Sean, Ayana, Tenzin, Zoe and Elizabeth; Caring Sister to Martha Lopez and the late Tibursio Martinez; Cherished Daughter of the late Rafael and Maria Martinez. Joaquina enjoyed a successful career before retiring. She then delighted in gardening, reading, travelling and spending time with her family. She was a dedicated parishioner at Mary Queen of Heaven Parish and accredited her faith to surviving several long and courageous battles with cancer. Visitation at the Pedersen Ryberg Mortuary, 435 N. York St., Elmhurst on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral Wednesday, April 26, 2017 beginning with prayers at the mortuary at 9 a.m. and proceeding to Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Elmhurst for a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
